Family-based care A family, a home and a future.
![]() Action for Orphans provides “family-based” care for orphaned or abandoned children of Iran. As well as covering our children’s basic needs such as, adequate housing, nutrition and healthcare we also ensure a comprehensive education and training program that is focused on supporting the children’s development into self-confident, self reliant and contributing members of the society. How do we achieve this? Action for Orphans draws on the experience and learning of the tried and tested “family module” for out-of-home care, developed by international childcare organizations. In the AFO “family module”, each child has a family of his or her own. At the centre of each AFO family is a main care person, the AFO-mother, who is a close substitute for the children’s natural mother. The AFO-mother, together with her children, organises her family’s daily life and is supported by trained Educational and Developmental staff. Up to ten children live in each AFO family, in their own house. |
